CLEARLY Veeran has a point It is good to have the followings:

1. all ltte leaders and those who had involved in ltte activities should be only working for the trans. nat. govern. invisibly. We must recognize the determination of the ltte members for the eelam tamils' cause (strongly +ve) as well as the adverse stand taken by the IC towards the ltte. TNA-LTTE relationship was open while trans. nat. govern. & ltte's relationship should be as hidden as possible.

2. in addition to renouncing violence, this trans. nat. govern. should fight for the "self-determination" of eelam tamils, with the internal self-determination (i.e. truly federal) as the 1st choice and the external self-determination (i.e. full separation only if the GOSL does not give the federal) as the 2nd choice.

Pro-Tiger diaspora in a post-Prabhakaran scenario.

A noteworthy feature of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) has been the special manner in which it glorifies death and pays homage to dead tiger fighters.

Fallen LTTE members were eulogized as martyrs and referred to as “Maaveerar” or Great heroes.

The departed tigers were buried in cemeteries known as “Maaveerar Mayaanangal” (great hero cemeteries) and memorials called “Maaveerar Thuyilum Illangal” (sleeping abodes of great heroes) were constructed.

November 27th of each year was declared the “Maaveerar thinam” or great heroes day. This was the date on which Sathiyanathan alias Shankar died of gunshot injuries in 1982. He was the first LTTE cadre to be killed in combat.

Subsequently the entire week from Nov 21st was proclaimed as great heroes week. Various events paying homage to the memory of fallen tigers were held in North-Eastern Sri Lanka and abroad.

The highlight of November 27th was a public address by LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran in which he outlined current policy objectives of the tigers.

Prabhakaran also paid public tribute to his “maaveerar” and lit the “eegaichudar” or sacrificial flame on that day.

Apart from this special annual ceremony the LTTE also honoured its leaders and cadres immediately after death . Elaborate funerals were held and memorial meetings were organized.

Leaflets were issued and posters put up. Tigers and tiger supporters in the Diaspora also held a variety of events in memory of the fallen tigers.; June 19, 2009 at 10:37 PM

Against this backdrop of the LTTE making a fetish out of death one would have expected a series of commemorative events in the aftermath of LTTE leader Prabhakaranâ€™s demise on May 18th this year.

The LTTE’s head of International Relations (euphemism for global tiger chief) Selvarasah Pathmanathan alias KP a.k.a. Kumaran announced formally over radio on the morning of May 22nd 2009 that the Tiger leader was no more.

This was followed by a special press release dated May 24th 2009. In that KP stated-

“We announce today, with inexpressible sadness and heavy hearts that our incomparable leader and supreme commander of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam attained martyrdom fighting the military oppression of the Sri Lankan Government”.

KP went on to emphasise . “We share the sorrow and despair of all the Tamils in Sri Lanka, The Diaspora and the Tamil speaking people of the world”.

Pathmanathan also called for a week of mourning to pay tribute to his leader and other fallen “freedom fighters and civilians”.

“We have declared the week beginning Monday, 25 May 2009, as a week of official mourning paying tribute for the supreme sacrifice by our beloved leader. During this week let us celebrate his supreme sacrifice and his contribution to the betterment of the Tamil world. Let us also mark the sacrifices of all the commanders, freedom fighters and the civilians who also laid down their lives.”

In the aftermath of KP’s public acknowledgement and call for mourning ,many people including this writer expected a massive outpouring of grief and sorrow to manifest itself through well-organized demonstrations and commemorative meetings.

Homage

I have been one of the few Tamils who criticized and condemned Velupillai Prabhakaran when he was alive, powerful and dangerous. Now that he was no more I did feel that the Tamils who equated him to a living God should pay homage to his memory.

Whatever his faults there is no denying that Prabhakaran was a historic figure who should be posthumously honoured at least by those claiming to be his followers.

Apart from the LTTE supremo a very large number of senior LTTE leaders and commanders like Soosai,Bhanu, Jeyam, Nadesan, Sornam etc had also died. Earlier in April another set of prominent tigers like Theepan, Gaddafi, Vidusha, Durga etc had also died.

Most of the senior tigers killed had devoted decades of their life to what they regarded as the Tamil cause.They deserved honours in their own right.

In such a situation I did expect many commemorative events to proliferate in the “Thamizh koorum nallulakam” (Tamil-speaking good world ).

Tiger propagandists when exhorting Diaspora Tamils to contribute or demonstrate come up with a familiar refrain “do your historical duty (varalaatrukkadamai)”.

So I thought the Diaspora will now do its historical duty and pay tribute to the LTTE leader and others.

With the LTTE being deprived of territorial control in Sri Lanka there is absolutely no chance of any pro-tiger event including a commemorative meeting being held in any part of the Island right now.

But one did anticipate large-scale memorial meetings paying tribute to Prabhakaran and senior tiger leaders being held in many cities in the west by Diaspora tiger elements.

Presently the LTTE enjoys “visible” support only among sections of the Tamil Diaspora and segments of Tamil Nadu population in India.

Since it is virtually impossible to display any public support for the LTTE in any part of Sri Lanka it was the “varalaatruk kadamai” of the Diaspora to pay homage.; June 19, 2009 at 10:37 PM

A whole month has passed since the demise of both the LTTE and its leader but the astonishing reality is that not even one public meeting has been held abroad so far to commemorate Prabhakaran or other members of the LTTE.

Only grieving family members held religious and cultural observances privately in memory of their dear ones.

The familiar memorial meetings and commemorative events held on a grand scale to glorify fallen tigers are conspicuous by their absence. It is as if the Diaspora had dropped the LTTE like a hot potato after its defeat and Prabhakaran and other top tigers had ceased to exist in Diasporic consciousness and conscience.

The actual situation however is somewhat different.

Basically many sections of the “tiger” diaspora are in a state of denial.This state of affairs is aggravated by the deliberate campaign of misinformation and disinformation by some LTTE activists.

Opposition

Furthermore divisions within Diaspora tiger elements have also contributed to this state of affairs. Chief among these causes is the opposition to KP’s leadership by vested interests among overseas tigers.

As a result of this bizarre situation ,Prabhakaran and his senior deputies are being denied an opportunity of being commemorated at least by fellow Tamils of the Diaspora.

In a cruel twist of fate the man who bestowed titles like “Maamanithan” (great human) or “naatrupatraalar” (Patriot) on dead LTTE supporters himself lay dead on the shores of Nandhikkadal lagoon.

Now in a further twist Prabhakaran and other leaders had been denied even a simple public commemorative ceremony paying tribute.

When he was alive these same Diaspora praised him to the skies but after death not even one public event paying homage has been held.

When a few attempts were made to hold memorial meetings , tiger goon squads descended on the venues and intimidated the organizers into abandoning the projects.

Usually tiger hooligans disrupt meetings by rivals or dissidents. Now it was becoming an intra-tiger practice.

Strangely enough the prime casualty in all this is none other than Selvarasa Pathmanathan alias KP himself. A revolt has been fomented against him by sections of the Diaspora LTTE establishment.; June 19, 2009 at 10:39 PM

It is typical of the LTTE to conduct vicious vilification campaigns against those who fall foul of it. This writer has often been the victim in these orchestrated campaigns.

In this instance the overseas tigers have launched a slanderous , defamatory campaign against KP himself. He is the target of an intra-tiger assault aimed at undermining his credibility within the global Tamil Diaspora.

The chink in KP’s armour was his hasty announcement a few days earlier that the LTTE leader was alive in a safe location. This was presumably done to refute initial media reports that Prabhakaran was dead.

The exact reasons behind KP’s announcement is a matter for speculation. According to some sources close to KP the global tiger chief had been in receipt of information that Prabhakaran had reached a safe location and hence his forthright assertion that his leader was indeed safe.

Subsequently KP received confirmation that Prabhakaran was indeed dead and that the earlier information was wrong. A thoroughly shattered KP went into seclusion for a day and then began consulting a few senior activists and supporters.

Realising that the armed struggle had conclusively ended and convinced that the immediate need was to facilitate the speedy resettlement of displaced civilians and secure the early release of detained tiger cadres and families , KP decided to lead the overseas tigers into a new non-violent political future.

The announcement about Prabhakaran’s death and the call to observe a week of mourning was the first step in this direction. Once the community commemorated the deaths and paid tribute to the leader and other commanders the people could face up to a bleak, uncertain future in a more organized, practical manner it was felt.

But KP found an unexpected revolt in expatriate tiger ranks. Influential sections within the LTTE overseas structure refused to accept the fact that Prabhakaan was dead. They raised doubts about Prabhakaran’s reported death.

Demi-god

For years and years the LTTE and its acolytes had constructed a myth around Prabhakaran. He was omniscient and omnipotent. The Thalaiver was infallible and invincible. He was portrayed as a demi-god for whom there could be no demise.

When I reported in December 2007 that Prabhakaran had received very minor injuries in aerial bombardment there was a massive campaign by tiger supporters against me. The essence of this campaign was that no harm could ever befall their beloved leader.

So when KP himself announced that the supreme leader was no more the Diaspora was dumbstruck. Nurtured for years on a diet of make believe and pretence the shocked Diaspora supporters simply refused to believe that their immortal leader was an ordinary mortal.

At this juncture the anti-KP elements struck back. They refuted KP’s announcement and commenced an underhand campaign to vilify Pathmanathan as a traitor spreading falsehoods.

This suited Diaspora elements wanting to disbelieve the unpleasant truth and believe in the pleasant lie. A responsive chord was struck and an anti-KP tide was on the rise.

Despite his new appointment as global tiger chief KP was on a weak wicket as he was yet to consolidate his grip on the Diaspora tiger structures.; June 19, 2009 at 10:40 PM

Pathamanathan at one time had been in charge of three major LTTE functions .

Firstly he was chief arms procurer or head of the overseas purchasing dept an euphemism for arms purchasing.This was called KP department then.

Secondly he was in control of all fund raising activity for LTTE overseas.

Thirdly he was responsible for supervising the administration of LTTE overseas branches and front organizations.

He was then very powerful and the most influential tiger abroad

After the ceasefire of 2002 there was a re-structuring within LTTE.

There were allegations of financial irregularity and sexual impropriety against KP.

The man who poisoned Prabhakaran’s mind against KP was reportedly former tiger political commissar Suppiah Paramu Thamilselvan and intelligence chief Pottu Amman.

Another problem was that KP had become too well-known to the international intelligence agencies and was also wanted by Interpol. This restricted his mobility. Besides he was also not in good health.

Retired

So KP was relieved of duties and sent to pasture. KP himself married a Thai national and embraced domestication.

Different people were entrusted with KP’s earlier responsibilities. But KP still gave advice and guidance to those doing arms purchase.

Manivannan alias Castro was placed in charge of overseas administration He removed all office â€“ bearers appointed by KP and put his own people in.

Meanwhile KP proved to Prabhakaran that the charges against him were baseless. Prabhakaran’s faith in KP was restored. But KP declined the offer to re-assume his earlier position.

KP was thus unofficially retired.

But a hard-pressed Prabhakaran turned to KP at a time of need. KP was given the post head of International relations again an euphemism for International chief of LTTE.; June 19, 2009 at 10:41 PM

But there was a cold war right from the start. Castro resisted the change and his loyalists did not co-operate fully with KP.

Since the military situation was precarious on ground the main focus of Prabhakaran and hierarchy was on countering the military juggernaut. So the KP-Castro cold war continued abroad.

Now Castro is no more but those appointed by him are still defying KP.The greater part of the overseas structure remains opposed to KP.

After Prabhakaran’s death the situation has worsened because KP derived his authority from the supremo. Now in a post-Prabhakaran situation he is virtually powerless.

Earlier when the war escalated, regular contact between the Wanni tigers and the Diaspora structure began declining. So Castro appointed one person to be in overall charge of all LTTE offices and front organizations abroad.

This person known by the nom de guerre “Nediyavan” (tall man) operates from Scandinavia , shuttling among countries like Sweden,Norway and Denmark. Those in charge of tiger offices in different countries were controlled by Nediyavan on behalf of Castro.

Nediyavan issued internal instructions to all the Tiger fronts and office-bearers that Prabhakaran was yet alive and that KP’s directives were to be disregarded. Thus KP’s call to mourn Prabha and others went unheeded.

Arivazhagan

Almost immediately after KP went public on Prabhakaran’s death there was also a public denial. This was by Kathirgamathamby Arivazhakhan the head of the LTTE Intelligence division’s external wing.

Arivazhakhan issued a statement on May 22nd evening from an undisclosed location asking people not to believe “engineered rumours”.

“Our beloved leader is alive,” he said and added that the LTTE leadership will make contact with its people at a suitable time in future.

“These rumours have been set afloat to confuse the global Tamil community which has been voicing support for the liberation of Tamil Eelam,” Arivazhakhan further said.

This development brought about a “convergence” of sorts between Castro loyalists and Pottu Amman’s operatives abroad. Despite their differences both groups joined together to oppose and undermine KP.

Consequent to the “intelligence” group getting into the act a “special” news item was published in the LTTE Tamil media abroad. This was purportedly a statement issued by someone called “Vetrikkumaran”.

This Vetrikumaran was described as the commander of the “Yaarl Sellum Padaiyani” or the forces going to Jaffna. This statement too said the leadership was safe and sound and that the next military phase of the LTTE would begin shortly.; June 19, 2009 at 10:42 PM

The dazed Diaspora in a state of denial latched on to these assertions. Facing the Diaspora was the stark reality of a virtually demolished LTTE. Along with such demolition, the Eelam dream was also destroyed.

Now hope was being offered that it was not so. The leader was not dead and the tigers were not vanquished. The armed struggle would continue it was being said. So tiger supporters bereft of hope opted to hitch their wagon to this fantasy star.

Also began a systematic campaign of denigration against KP. The aim was to erode his credibility and undermine his authority. KP’s weak point as stated earlier was his hasty announcement that Prabhakaran was alive.

Now that was being used against him. KP was portrayed as a traitor contradicting his own assertion at the behest of sinister agencies.

Even during earlier times when KP was all-powerful his identity and authority was not known to most ordinary members of the Tamil Diaspora. Only the active LTTE and pro-tiger elements knew all about KP.

As mentioned earlier when KP was re-appointed the prevailing official LTTE structure was hostile to him. This hostility and resistance to his authority found a fresh impetus after VPâ€™s death.

KP’s pragmatic approach and announcement of giving up the arms struggle made many hard-liners resentful. The hard-liners living in illusion found KP’s comparatively rational approach of ending the armed struggle unacceptable.

Generally key figures in various LTTE structures in overseas offices are ganged up against KP.

Divisions

There are some stalwarts supporting KP. Intra-LTTE divisions are emerging.

Generally hard-liners are opposed to KP. The pragmatic ones are supporting him.

There are also the lucrative fund-raising mechanisms. A whole lot of people are running the LTTE financed enterprises. Those not wanting to let go fear KP may replace them and are thus revolting against him.

The weapon utilized by these anti-KP elements is the Prabhakaran issue.

Some realize Prabhakaran is dead but opine that the truth should not be revealed because all fund raising would effectively end if the fact is known.

Other fanatical hawks argue that the struggle for Eelam can continue only if people believe Prabhakaran is alive.

A vicious campaign malingering KP as a traitor and being in the pay of Colombo (SIS), New Delhi (RAW) and Washington (CIA) is on.

They accuse KP of deliberate lies in saying that Prabhakaran is no more whereas “Thalaiver” is safe and sound in a hidden location.; June 19, 2009 at 10:42 PM

He is accused through this multi-faceted campaign of even having betrayed Prabhakaran to the armed forces. On the one hand they deny Prabha is dead and on the other accuse KP of causing his death.

Politicians in Tamil Nadu like Vaiko and Nedumaran are also saying that Prabhakaran is alive and that KP is a traitor spreading lies and rumours. They charge Pathmanathan as being in the pay of intelligence outfits.

Thus the Tamil Diaspora is generally confused and a lot of Tamils are parroting the negative charges against KP.

However the anti-KP sections are damaging him immensely.

Pathmanathan’s views are blacked out in most tiger media organs. His call to mourn Prabhakaran is spurned.

KP loyalists and supporters are afraid to voice their support openly due to the threat of violence. The LTTE that uses violence to terrorize opponents is now caught up in the culture spawned by it.

A loose coalition opposing KP argues foolishly that Prabhakaran is alive. These forces are not organized as a cohesive body.

Also there is no single person capable of challenging or replacing KP at present.

Forefront

In the forefront of those opposing KP are Jeyachandran alias Jeya annai the editor of “Tamilnet” website and KP Regi the executive-director of Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO).

Jeyachandran is in Norway and Regi in Britain.

The trio comprising Nediyavan, KP Regi and Jeyachandran are leading the anti-KP campaign.

Lurking in the background was the shadowy Arivazhaghan and the intelligence operatives.

In an unexpected turn of events the intelligence outfit changed its stance on June 18th exactly a month after Prabhakaran’s death.

Statement

The statement issued on behalf of Arivazhaghan confirmed that Prabhakaran was indeed dead and had attained martyrdom.

It was said that information about battlefront events from May 15th-19th was hazy and that was the cause of the earlier announcement stating Prabhakaran was not dead.

Subsequently the LTTE intelligence division had verified Prabhakaran’s death. The leader had fought and died on the battlefield.He had neither surrendered nor been captured.

The statement also cleared Pathmanathan indirectly by referring to his two contradictory statements.

The intelligence wing statement apologized to the Tamil people for misleading them earlier about Prabhakaran being alive.

The shift by Arivazhaghan is a tremendous boost to KP. The Nediyavan-Jeya Annai-KP Regi trio is weakened.

With the intelligence division’s external wing confirming Prabhakaranâ€™s death it may be possible for KP to persuade other tiger activists to accept reality.

KP has been quietly fighting back by enlisting the support of comparatively saner elements among the pro-tiger Diaspora. He hopes to consolidate himself gradually.

The quixotic move to form a “transnational Tamil Eelam” administration by the LTTE abroad is also seen as a desperate attempt by KP to establish his authority over the Tamil Diaspora.

Authority

If the intelligence wing supports him KP can strengthen himself further.

If KP is indeed asserting his authority the Diaspora would commence paying public tribute to Prabhakaran and others. Commemoration of the fallen tigers could be the barometer of KPâ€™s strength.

It remains to be seen as to whether KP will eventually consolidate his grip over the well-oiled, lucrative overseas LTTE structure.

Contrary to news reports about a “rump” the tiger structure abroad is a powerful organization.

If KP fails to establish control and the revolt continues the fragmentation of the tiger Diaspora is inevitable.; June 19, 2009 at 10:43 PM

Who would have thought England would provide the ideal place to express Sri Lankan jubilation when its media and politicos were at war with SL just a few moons away. Could there have been a worse slap on the face for the diaspora? When the whole ethnic population, Indian,Pakistani,Bangladeshi,Sri Lankan and Carribeans are buzzing with enthusiasm and fun, it is the moron Tamil diaspora who are isolated and left unaccounted. This will bring further truth to the diaspora that their children will be raised in a vacuum of feeling no bond to a home country to cerebrate competitive events leading to utter humiliation and frustration among their friends and therefore to feel slaves to the whites unless they quickly realize their folly and rally round SL.
The 20/20 cup has come at an opportune time at the right place for SL and wish it to be a Sri Lanka and England final but the icing of the cake will be if Sri Lanka lifts the cup!''

எல்லோருமே விடுதலை இது தான் என இருந்தனர். சமாதானம் பலரை குடும்பஸ்தர்களாக மாற்றியது. பலர் வெளிநாடு போயினர். அல்லது வெளி மாவட்டங்களுக்கு போயினர். மீண்டும் யுத்தம் வரலாம் என நாம் சமாதான காலத்தில் முடிவெடுத்த நேரத்தில் யாரும் இதய சுத்தியுடன் போராட வர விரும்பவில்லை. காரணம் அவர்களுக்கு போராடவேண்டிய தேவை இருக்கவில்லை. எந்த துன்பமும் இல்லாதவன் ஏன் போராட வேண்டும்.

அதனால் கட்டாய ஆட் சேர்ப்பு நடை பெற்றது. இதைச் சாக்காக வைத்து பலர் பலவிதத்தில் மக்களுக்கும் எமக்கும் விரிசலைத் தோற்றினர். இதை எமது போராளிகள் பலர் செய்தனர் என்பதே மனவருத்தமான விடயம்;.

தமிழீழ இயக்கத்தில் உள்ள சிலரே பிரபாகரன் இறந்து விட்டதாக கூறுகிறார்களே. இதற்கு நீங்கள் என்ன சொல்கிறீர்கள்?

இயக்கத்தில் இருந்து வெளியேற்றப்பட்ட சிலர் இப்படி பொய்யான செய்திகளை பரப்புகிறார்கள். உதாரணமாக பத்மநாதன் என்பவர் ஆயுதம் வாங்கும் வேலையில் ஈடுபட்டு இருந்தார்.

அதில் அவர் சில தவறுகளை செய்ததால் அவரை அந்த பொறுப்பில் இருந்து பிரபாகரன் நீக்கி விட்டார். அதன்பிறகு அவர் சர்வதேச செயலகத்தில் ஒரு பொறுப்பாளராக மட்டுமே இருந்தார். இவருக்கு மேல் பல பொறுப்பாளர்கள் இருக்கிறார்கள். அறிக்கை விடுவதற்கு பத்மநாதனுக்கு எந்த அதிகாரமும் இல்லை.

பிரபாகரனுக்கு ஏதாவது நேர்ந்து இருந்தால் அதை அறிவிக்கும் அதிகாரம் அவருடன் களத்தில் நின்ற தளபதிகளுக்கு மட்டுமே உண்டு.

களத்தில் இல்லாமலும் சர்வதேச போலீசாரால் தேடப்பட்டு வருபவரும் எந்த கட்டத்திலும் தன்னை வெளிப்படுத்த முடியாமல் தலைமறைவாக இருப்பவருமான பத்மநாதனால், களத்தில் நடந்ததை எப்படி அறிந்து கொள்ள முடியும்?

It was Sri Lanka’s third straight win in the competition after scoring convincing victories over Hong Kong (80-27) and Malaysia (72-52).

Sri Lanka, winners in 1990, 1997 and 2001, are set to top the group when they wrap up their fixtures against Pakistan tomorrow.

உலக நாடுகளில் உள்ள இளம் தமிழ் தலைமுறையினரிடம் எமது தாயக விடுதலைக்கான அடுத்தகட்ட பணி ஒப்படைகப்பட்டுள்ளது. அதை அவர்கள் செவ்வனே செய்வார்கள். அடிமேல் அடி அடிக்க அம்மியும் நகர்வதுபோல், சர்வதேசமும் எமக்கு செவிசாய்க்கவும், எமக்காய் குரல் கொடுக்கவும் வைப்பார்கள் எம் இளையோர். ஆனால்!! அதேநேரம் ஈழத்தில் எம் ஆயுத படையை மீளக் கட்டியெழுப்பும் பாரிய பொறுப்பும் எம்முன்னே உள்ளது. என்ன வழியிலாவது அது நடந்தே தீரவேண்டும். தலைமை பற்றிய விவாதங்களுக்கு களத்தில் உள்ள புலிகளே தக்க நேரத்தில் விளக்கமளிகட்டும். ஆனால் ஈனச்சிங்களவனுக்கு ( சிங்கள படைக்கு மட்டும் அல்ல) பேரழிவைக் கொடுக்க, முள்ளிவாய்கால், புதுமாத்தளன், இரட்டைவாய்கால் அனுபவங்களை அவனும் அறியவைக்க, சாம்பலில் இருந்து புறப்படும் பீனிக்ஸ் பறவை போல, எம் தமிழ் படையும் மீண்டும் உயிர்த்தெழ வேண்டும். அதற்கான எல்லாவித முயற்சிகளும் தாமதமின்றி முன்னெடுக்கப்பட வேண்டும். எப்படி, எங்கே, எப்போது என்று எம் புலிகளே எமக்கு கூறட்டும். இப்பெரும்பணியில் அவர்களுக்கு எவ்வாறு தோள் கொடுப்பது என்று நாம் ஒவ்வொருவரும் சிந்திப்போம். கொன்றோழிக்கப்பட்ட ஒவ்வொரு தமிழ் உயிருக்கும் சிங்களவன் பதில் சொல்லியே தீரவேண்டும். தமிழரின் முதுகெலும்பை முறித்துவிட்டோம் என இறுமாந்து நிற்கும் சிங்கள தேசத்திற்கு எவ்வாறான வழிகளில் அழிவுகளையும், இழப்புகளையும் இனி வரப்போகும் காலங்களில் ஏற்படுத்தலாம் என நாம் ஒவ்வுருவரும் தீவிரமாய் சிந்திக்க வேண்டும்.

அரசியல் ரீதியான தீர்வுகள், தமிழ் ஈழத்தின் பிறப்பு இவை எல்லாம் காலத்தின் கட்டாயம். அவை நடந்தே தீரும். ஆனால்! பாதுகாப்பு பகுதி, யுத்த சூனிய பிரதேசம் என்றெல்லாம் கூறி எம்மக்களை ஓரிடத்தில் கூட வைத்து, மொத்தமாய் கொன்று குவித்து, கடற்கரை மண்ணோடு மண்ணாய் தடயமின்றி புதைத்தும் விட்டானே சிங்களவன், அதற்கு பதில்???? உலகமே அவர்களை கைவிட்ட சோகத்தில், நெஞ்சு நிறைந்த வலியோடு அல்லவா எம் உறவுகள் கண்மூடி இருக்கும??? இறுதி நிமிடத்திலாவது ஒரு அதிசயம் நிகழ்ந்து, சர்வதேசம் கண்திறந்து இந்த அழிவு நின்றுவிடாதா என்று ஏங்கித்தவித்து இருக்குமே…. நினைக்க நினைக்க நெஞ்சு கனக்கிறது நமக்கு! எந்த உலக நாடும், எந்த சர்வதேச நீதிமன்றமும் அவர்களை எதுவும் செய்யபோவதில்லை. பதிக்கப்பட்ட நாமே தண்டனை கொடுப்பவர்களாயும் மாறவேண்டும். அதுவொன்றே தீர்வு ! நியாயமும் அதுவே !

நடந்ததை எண்ணி துயர் பகிர்ந்து, அழிவைத் தடுக்க ஒன்றும் செய்யமுடியாமல் போன சோகத்தோடு மீதமுள்ள வாழ்நாளை கடத்தப்போகிறோமா அல்லது எதிரிக்கு பாடம் புகட்டி, எம் தமிழீழ கனவை நனவாக்கி, வரலாறாகப் போகிறோமா என்பது எம் கைகளிலேயே உள்ளது.

புலிகள் சேனை மீண்டும் வீறுகொண்டு எழுகின்ற நாளுக்காய் உலகிலுள்ள ஒவ்வொரு உண்மை தமிழனும் உதிரம் கசியும் இதயத்துடன் காத்திருப்போம். விடிவு தொலைவில் இல்லை என உறுதியாய் நம்புவோம்.

எனவே விடுதலைப் புலிகளின் உறுப்பினர்களின் குடும்பங்களில் உள்ள குழந்தைகளையும், பெண்களையும், முதிய வர்களையும் கொண்ட ஒரு ஆயிரம் பேர் கொண்ட மக்களுக்கு அடைக்கலம் கொடுக்க முடியுமா என விடுதலைப் புலிகளின் கேணல் தர உறுப்பினர் ஒருவர் நான் மேல் குறிப்பிட்ட அந்த தலைவரிடம் வேண்டுகோள் ஒன்றை விடுத்திருந்தார்.

ஏப்பிரல் மாதம் 20 ஆம் நாள் அந்த வேண்டுகோள் விடுக்கப்பட்டது. அந்த மக்களை தாங்களே கொண்டுவந்து விடுவதாகவும் விடுதலைப் புலிகள் தெரிவித்திருந்தனர். ஆனால் அதற்கு அந்த தலைவர் தான் ஆளும் கட்சியிடம் பேசிவிட்டு பதில் தருவதாக தெரிவித்திருந்தார். அதன் பின்னர் அவர் அதனை மறுத்ததுடன், விடுதலைப் புலிகளுடன் தொடர்புகொள்வதையும் அவர் தவிர்த்து விட்டார்.இன்று அந்த மக்களில் பெரும்பாலனவர்கள் உயிருடன் இல்லை. குழந்தைகளும், பெண்களும் படுகொலை செய்யப்பட்டு விட்டனர். ஆனால் இந்திய தேர்தலில் வெற்றியீட்டிய பின்னர் அந்த கட்சியின் தலைவர் மீண்டும் ஈழத்தமிழ் மக்களை காப்பாற்ற போவதாக கூறிக்கொண்டு பாரிய பேரணி ஒன்றை அண்மையில் நடத்தி முடித்திருந்தார்.

அந்த பேரணியானது எமது மக்களை படுகொலை செய்துவிட்டு அந்த பிஞ்சுக்குழந்தைகளின் சாம்பல் மேட்டில் நடத்தப்பட்ட பேரணியாகவே எனக்கு தோன்றியது. தமிழகத்தின் சில கட்சிகளின் கபட நாடகங்களிற்கு இது ஒரு சிறு உதாரணம் மட்டுமே. இவர்கள் எல்லாம் தமது அரசியல் நலன்களை உதறிவிட்டு எப்போது இதயசுத்தியுடன் தமிழ் இனத்தை காப்பாற்ற முன்வருவார்கள் என்பது தான் ஒவ்வொரு தமிழ் குடிமகனினதும் மனதிலும் தற்போது உள்ள ஆதங்கம்.; June 26, 2009 at 2:02 AM

The recent history of Sri Lanka has demonstrated that diplomatic negotiations are doomed to fail with an enemy with an absolutist agenda seeking to create change with ruthless use of terror, the Times said.

The other lesson is that terrorists engage in hollow ceasefire arrangements to opportunistically buy time, the Times argued.

The editorial insisted that Western elected governments should support all elected governments' ideology to combat terrorism.

The end of the megalomaniac killer and the megalomaniac outfit he created finally did the justice to the 19 million Sri Lankan citizens who suffered immensely due to the madness he unleashed. Ironically, it was the same madness and the hatred championed by Prabhakaran and his followers that became their Achilles’ heel.

Had the insular minds of Prabhakaran and his ardent followers abroad could perceive the reality, at least 500 LTTE cadres could have saved their lives even at the last moment. It is quite clear that Prbhakaran kept his last hope at the strength that he believed to be there with the pro terror Tamils abroad. Perhaps, he might have thought that Donald Gnanakoon and the lot had the power to send whole US army to Mullivaikkal to save him. Unfortunately, propaganda lies of LTTE could only took few mediocre diplomats for a ride and made them making fool of themselves by clamouring for a terrorist outfit.

On the other hand, it appears that the so-called “diaspora” Tamils supportive of terrorism had believed that Prabhakaran processed some kind of super natural powers and therefore his outfit would be invincible. Perhaps, they might have believed Prabhakaran was buying time to use some secret weapon that can whack whole Sri Lanka Army with a single blow. What they did not know was that that Prabhakaran was a coward who spent most of the hard earned “diaspora” monies sent to him for his own luxury.

However, the most immediate victims of this two-way deception carried out for last 30 years were the Tamils lived in Wanni under Prabhakaran’s tyranny. The brutal war that was fought at the expense of the Tamil youth had no genuine interest one the part of the person who led it or the people who funded it. The whole process was conducted out of unbridled hatred and lacked the scope to reach anywhere near to its so claimed goal, redressing legitimate grievances of the Tamil people.

In contrary, Sri Lankan Armed Forces fought a different war backed by strong will of the national leadership. Every member of armed forces and police shared the vision of their Commander in Chief that is to create a country free of terror for the next generation. Instead of hatred they brought the kindness on their Tamil brethren. They risked their lives to save innocent civilians from the evil grip of LTTE terror. They braved the raining artillery and mortar shells only with the riffles in their hands to free the civilians held hostage by the terrorists.

Finally, it was their kindness that was understood by the Wanni civilians and made them to seek protection with the soldiers. There was no bloodbath, no genocide, massacre as predicted by pro terror media but an end to terror and freedom to the Tamil nation.; June 29, 2009 at 5:44 AM

Defeating the enemy on the battlefield

Sri Lanka recently emerged victorious from one of the world's longest-running conflicts, once termed an "unwinnable" war with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), also known as the Tamil Tigers.

The LTTE is considered one of the deadliest terrorist groups, having invented the concept of the modern-day suicide bomber and carried out the murder of two sitting heads of states. In addition, the Tamil Tigers pioneered use of female suicide bombers, homemade minisubmarines, ultralight aircraft and "warehouse ships" pre-positioned on the high seas to resupply terrorist operations on shore.; June 29, 2009 at 5:48 AM

Actively preventing ex-patriot supporters of defeated terrorist organizations from funding, supplying or otherwise supporting the creation of follow-on entities that will resume the violence - albeit under different names, with different faces - must cap victory on the battlefield.

This means, in the Sri Lankan case, that the United States, Canada, Australia, Great Britain and the rest of the Commonwealth are the front-line states in ensuring that their territories will not be used to reignite LTTE's failed but extraordinarily bloody terrorism.

Terrorist movements rely upon the apathy of third countries toward the suffering that groups operating on their soil cause in distant nations. The hypocritical and self-serving attitude apparent in the commonly expressed "they are engaged only in fundraising here, not violence" not only rationalizes inaction, but also cripples international support for counterterrorism moves deemed vital to host nation interests.

Even the most sophisticated and creative terror organizations make bad decisions and demonstrate self-defeating behavior. The assassination of Rajiv Gandhi by LTTE operatives in India brought a profound backlash that saw India effectively bar its soil from being used as a staging area for operations inside Sri Lanka. The war was fought on the ground in Sri Lanka, while propaganda and funds for weapons were handled by LTTE supporters living in the West, and weapons were acquired from Southeast Asia and Central Europe. Although the United States designated the LTTE as a foreign terrorist organization in October 1997, it was not until November 2007 that it banned the Tamil Rehabilitation Organization as an LTTE front organization. Until then, in the guise of charity, LTTE activists were collecting funds and transferring them to the Tiger war chest. Canada proscribed the LTTE in April 2006 and banned the World Tamil Movement (WTM) in June 2008. The banning of these front organizations was a major blow to LTTE terrorist operations.

Even after the unequivocal military defeat of the LTTE, its overseas supporters defiantly keep the separatist dream alive despite annihilation of most of LTTE's leadership and the death of founder Velupillai Prabhakaran. If unchecked, they may well transform that dream once again into virulent terrorism, and this time, the Eelam War may well be fought locally - by the diaspora in the West.

The distance between the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) sheltered in the camps in search of a new life and the Externally Displaced Diaspora engaged in a self determining exercise of rediscovering themselves while competing with fractions within the fractured LTTE in exile, is a bridge too far to cross. Both are presently homeless and in search of identities. IDPs have a home to go back; but the Diaspora once hopeful of welcome return for the prodigal sons by the LTTE, will have no welcoming team on arrival in Sri Lanka. IDPs hopefully secured in their homes, by then, may have to greet their visiting cousins and tell them tales of life under the LTTE, which they sponsored from abroad.

IDPs can dream of better times especially for their children. The Diaspora has to live with shattered dreams. They expected to go places under a LTTE regime, as their overseas members who contributing lavishly for the cause, hopeful of future benefits. That hope is devastated. The frustration in being a permanent guest worker abroad is understandable.

The show piece issue is the Internally Displaced People .It is the make or break factor for Sri Lanka. All the sins and omissions attributed to Sri Lanka by critics will stand erased if resolved in the best interest of the inmates. Significantly the camps can become nurseries for national integration or driving seat for the next insurrection. The road to concord or conflict lies through these camps.

Within the camps are possibly constituents of eight electorates. trapped in a space as small in geographical extent as wards in an urban council. The narrow passages between the tent cities are the corridors of political discussion that will widen to reflect the voter behavior at next elections at Opinion does not require to be spread, it is felt.

This is the epicenter of Tamil political power competing with the more conservative Jaffna and sophisticated Batticaloa. Being in mind and heart closer to the LTTE these folk reflect post- Prabhakaran trauma and aspirations. Political campaigns have already commenced by interested parties in the camps as they are within arms length of the electors. Those who stand out in the camps as communicators and social activists are the potential lead candidates. They have formed groupings which could be the emerging political parties in an embryonic form, as the residents within the camps are desperately searching for a new political leadership. Intelligentsia are well entrenched in the camps to make valuable contributions and have much time to seek political advancement, as they live idling. Latent politics is the most vibrant activity which goes unseen in the playground, at common baths, in the kitchens and at social gatherings.

The government has provided a playground for leaders to emerge as they have a captive crowd to perform before. Tamil politicians coming from beyond the confines of the shelters are early bird in search of prey. The politicians from Jaffna to Tamil Nadu who were hiding will surface again and attempt to regain their misplaced constituents and lost territory .They will have much explain where they have been so long away! Sure, there will be no welcome boards for annay and thamby come lately. Those within the camps perform day and night service to improve the quality of life in the camps to create a lasting impression to carry with the residents on going home. That is the real politick of the place.

A prime consideration that has escaped many is that LTTE has between 6000 to 9000 hidden soft line members including hard line cadres in the camp. They are like the free masons in secret contact and are the most formidable established group in operation. They are likely to surface with a new title to capture power democratically. Undoubtedly this group will function underground for a while.

Beyond the check point at Vavuniya presently it is officially a zero political zone in a previous zone of zero political tolerance. To the elderly in these precincts over the last 25 years Ananda Sangaree, Devananda, Sambandan, were distant voices which with time had dimmed to insignificance. Mention their names-look on the faces show disinterest. Pressed to comment the response is unenthusiastic. Naturally, they did not materialize at the time of need. To the young these are names unknown and unheard. It appears the elders have not felt it worthwhile to keep in mind to mention such names to the young. The government is at an unfair advantage because of the damage caused by the LTTE to their children, will not be forgiven or forgotten; life was virtual hell in the final days of the LTTE. If the IDPs are mishandled the government is in a boiling cauldron and a renamed LTTE will soon arrive.

The INGOs are at work in the camps carrying with them the same arrogance and agendas as before. Their local acolytes are worse. The soldiers in the outer periphery are smarting but the provincial officialdom in the inner circuit is smarter watching silently, the NGO operations calculated to discredit Sri Lanka. They are cringing for the handouts on offer from the foreign outfits while paying respectful courtesies to the visiting dignitaries.

The centre lives in cuckoo land thinking everything is tickety poo, realizing little they are been taken on a long ride from Vavuniya up North. Mercifully the military is maintaining a dignified disciplined presence. Naturally the NGOs will want them banished to mount the saddle with a civilian administration still carrying LTTE drop outs; most are cultivators of personal benefits.

The government has taken a gamble, from which it can, if not properly marshaled, recreate the Frankenstein monster that Prabhakran endeavored to portrait of the Sinhalese, in the minds of the camp dwellers. Presently they identify the monster in LTTE fatigue but the image can shift to the State, unless handled with care.

Meanwhile across the Suez , the lost and beaten generation in the Diaspora sadly sulking, is trying to attract the attention of the local theatre inventing a gimmick. The Provisional Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (PTGTE) is a laugh but for the projected alliance with the TNA. They have placed TNA in a dilemma. It requires a response from the TNA as silence will be deemed to be consent. PTGTE cuts across the 6th Amendment which will deprive TNA of parliamentary positions if the concept of a separate state is an objective. The separate state is the revived goal in a new dressing of the PTGTE. TNA is the bridge to cross from across the seas to the Wanni, with the NGOs acting as the visiting missionaries to carry the message to the camps.

The spokesman for the organization admits it would work in partnership with the TNA. A partnership formed to seek Eelam violates the oath taken by TNA parliamentarians. The timing is hazardous for the TNA as they will have to surface to run for local election. If they absent themselves the space will be taken by a rival force and a repair job will be a near impossibility.

Pathmanathan wing in creating the PTGTE has named prominent names in the Diaspora as advisors to make a public display of acquiring heavyweights to the fold. There is pressure by rival groups on these named persons to keep a distance. It appears money is doing the talking in troubled times. Leadership is now measured by the cash flow instead of an arms flow.

PTGTE appears to be the clubhouse of the alienated Tamils who desire to severe ties with Sri Lanka unlike the Wanni people, who voted with their feet against the LTTE regime by walking out of their territory having being kept captive. Most in camps are far removed from those who did not lift a finger for them, from their comfort homes in the West to legitimately assist the homeless Tamils in the North to improve their lot.; July 1, 2009 at 12:40 PM

Eritrea was the marked country from where LTTE obtained their supply of weapons. There were stories circulating the Norwegians were in the gun running in Eritrea. PTGTE will undoubtedly have Norwegian patronage with Soleheime as the link man.

Otherwise the PTGTE is a case of some unknowns wanting to become known. Those wanting to be wanted by law enforcement officers are seeking to establish a mock government in exile for those in permanent exile. More likely, to be a Job bank for the favored boys of K.Pathmanathan (KP) with guaranteed pay packets. From the LTTE they received commissions for the amounts collected; to hold them to loyalty KP has to give a bonus. The new icons of the Diaspora are dollars and pounds-no more is it guns and ammunition.

It is in Sri Lanka they desired to have a state and are now members of a failed state in exile. Prabhakaran would never have permitted them to set up such a front. Now that the Rat is dead the Mice have come out to play. KP has to keep his loyal personal flock happy to survive and the collection box has to keep rolling with an Eelam that is permanently round the corner and is forever coming soon. Without the projected image of Eelam the till will soon run dry.

This will be the beginning of accelerating the bickering that has already surfaced in the Diaspora. Rival fractions will be formed to ground PTGTE. There are so many who desire to put the hand into the cash flow of the lucky dip bequeathed by Prabhakaran. The battle for the estate of Prabhakaran has begun with the formation of the PTGTE.

The Diaspora can remain the problem for the future for the host countries in Europe that paddle their cause to win their votes. For Sri Lanka, those that matter are those in the camps maintaining their national identity caring for their children to grow in a healthy environ and to live a life in Sri Lanka.

Diaspora will belong to the Dalai Lama’s generation. They are forever in search of a lost horizon-a Shangri la that will never be theirs. They have by choice made , stateless in the search for a state of their own. They need a name board to re launch after having re banded themselves under fancy names abroad. Those who lived in the shadow of Prabhakaran are adjusting themselves to live a life of a silhouette.

LTTE rose to fame triumphantly destroying rival groups fighting for a similar cause. Will the LTTE end its days destroying the competing claimants within itself?

A quick comeback trial is a high profile suicide attempt on a lone mission where only a crafty handler and a dumb cadre manipulated by a shrewd Diaspora cell abroad with call connections is required to detonate a bomb. A fast gateway on a flight for the handler will cover tracks. That bomb shell will make the tills jingle again with foreign coins to keep the Diaspora back in business.

Nearly 2 months have passed since the Sri Lankan army defeated the Tamil Tigers, but the euphoria from the victory is slowly fading with the government unable to restore normality in the war effected areas.

300,000 internally displaced Tamils are in barb wired concentration camps. About 20 people live in a tent meant for 5 and hardly any toilets every 100s. Poor sanitation and inadequate health care, have resultes in oubreaks of disease, yet the governemnet bars aid agencies from visiting these camps. Apart from enduring these deplorable living conditions Tamils are constantly harrassed by the military. Sexual abuse and disappearance of civilians are rampant. With the tactical support India, China, Russia and Pakistan, the international community also is ineffective in dealing with Sri Lanka's gross violation of humans rights.

The governemnt has continued to maintain heavy military presence in theTamil areas, sparking fears of deliberate Sinhalaese colonialisation. According to Anandasangaree, leader of the United Tamil Liberation Front, Tamils are starting to feel that they were better off under the LTTE. So far the government has done nothing to address Tamils grievances. Especially in letting the displaced people return to their homes and devolve more power to Tamils.

With the demise of the LTTE, there is no one representing Tamils. While this remains unresolved there are fears in government circles that some remnants of LTTE or perhaps other militia groups might continue the struggle. Already LTTE's international political leaders K Padmanathan has announced that he will form a Tamil government in exile. Sri Lanka is clueless as to how many LTTE cadres have gone underground and when they will resurface. Uncertainities are looming over Pottu Amman, LTTE's intellignce chief, as to whether he is daed or alive . Initially he was believed to have died with LTTE chief but his body has not been found.

Meanwhile the Tamil dispora have been protesting, sabotaging Sri Lanka's efforts in getting foreign aid. With western nations suspending aid, Sri lanka has turned to its neigbouring regimes. China has pledged US $1 billion, India has contributed over US $500 m, while Iran and Pakistan are ready to offer financial support. But there seem to be a price attached to these aids. Hawkish India is eyeing the North and East to establish its military and economical dominance. China together with Pakistan is vying for the south.

To the Tamils, Indian dominance is nothing new, afterall there are over 70m Tamils in India and Tamils are culturally and religiously Hindus as the majority of Indians.

After its bitter experience in the IPKF fiasco, India will have to be more sensative to the Tamils and reduce the high presence of non Tamil Indians in the North and East.

However, to the Sinhalese, Chinese, Iranian and Pakistani domination is something new. Will this result in resentment by the Sinhala Buddhist chauvanists ? Lets wait and see

My opinion is that the Sri Lankan government was planing to stop the offensive due to pressure, and they needed a good publicity to justify stopping the attacks. So they saved up dead bodies for 5 or 6 days with the intention of announcing a huge battle that killed 500 LTTE fighters (and then showing 60 bodies from the weeks fighting). This explains the extremely decomposed state of the bodies, and the comparatively large number of bodies shown.

The LTTE has not spoken about this "battle" because it never happened. There is nothing to speak about. The LTTE was fighting as usual, gradually retreating into the no fire zone, losing on average 15 fighters a day - as they have been doing for nearly a year. There was nothing to announce as there was nothing that happened.

Once the Sri Lankan army neared the no fire zone, they brought the bodies out and made the claim that they have killed 500 LTTE fighters and all of the leaders. As you can see elsewhere, the monkeys are jumping up and down celebrating, just as the government hoped. That will give them the freedom to stop the fighting without having achieved their objective. Now the Sinhala public believes there is only 85 LTTE fighters left (70 if we count the 14 they say they killed yesterday), so the government has fooled the public into thinking they finished the LTTE. They were only able to find two faces to show as "leaders" and one of them doesn't even look anything like the person they claim it is.

Now that they have been forced to stop the attacks, they are hoping for defections from amongst the "dead" leadership. Did you see how much praise they showered on all of these dead leaders on defence.lk? It was almost like reading an LTTE website. This praise on the Sri Lankan government's website is a direct offer for a ministerial post to any of these "dead" LTTE leaders. They are hoping one of these leaders takes up the hint and defects, but that will never happen.

In the Canadian Tamil society, DBSJ is a total outcast. He would be the last of any Tamil to get information directly from Vanni.

To make matters worse, he doesn't have direct contacts with anyone high in the Sri Lankan military or government.

But, he is a good story teller. He knows names and details of the senior cadres. He also knows the location well. When he strings together personal data about an individual, describes geography, and adds some war-movie like time frame, his stories can be captivating.

I would say DefenceLK is more reliable than DBSJ. After all, he is the one who net-injured VP in Nov. '07.
