We all hope this news is true, but here are the logical possibilities:

1) Story is true, Prabhakaran is safe. Amparai notices say same thing.

2) Story is part of Prabhakaran's last plan to leave no body, along with rumors of himself being alive.

3) Story is a plan by corrupt secondary leaders to keep collecting money for the "LTTE" before the diaspora realizes the leader is no more, at which point everyone will disappear.

The sinhalese will be quick to say it is 3. If Charles Anthony is really dead, then it is likely 2. We all hope it is number 1.

Secret of Indian military involvement is out:

Sri Lanka’s military triumph over the LTTE that peaked with the announcement of Prabhakaran’s death today was possible with active assistance — including a defined naval deployment against the Sea Tigers — from India.

The aid increased steadily this year but New Delhi asked Colombo to keep it quiet till the election was over.

The Indian military assistance came on a specific request from the Sri Lankan government. The first military medical mission was despatched in April.

But far more significant than that benign assistance was the deployment of three fast attack boats and a missile corvette by the Indian Navy that were specifically tasked to patrol the Palk Straits, search for and catch hold of LTTE fugitives and, if necessary, destroy Sea Tiger craft.

The operation was executed by the Indian Navy’s Southern Command that co-ordinated with the integrated defence staff here. The missile corvette deployed was the INS Vinash, a boat indigenously made and capable of chasing the Sea Tigers’ vessels and pushing them back into Lankan waters to a waiting Lankan navy.

The “sea denial” and “naval blockade” by the Indian Navy was first requested by Colombo in May 2007. Sri Lankan defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa requested New Delhi to amend its hands-off policy and be more pro-active with military support for the island’s armed forces.

Lanka made the request after a daring attack by the Sea Tigers on the island of Delft near Jaffna. India was still chary of active military assistance. But it effected a course correction from the end of last year.

The course correction was prompted largely by a growing Chinese presence in Sri Lanka. With India hesitating to supply lethal arms to the Sri Lankan forces, Colombo turned to China and Pakistan. It also gave major port and road-building contracts to Beijing, much to New Delhi’s anxiety. India was to supply radars and was training Sri Lankan military personnel.

From early this year, Delhi shifted gears and increased the quantum of support. It quietly agreed to aid in the naval blockade against the Sea Tigers — India has also handed over “LTTE fugitives” to the Lankan forces — on the condition that this was not publicised.

Foreign secretary Shiv Shankar Menon and national security adviser M.K. Narayanan visited Colombo on the 23rd of last month in the middle of the elections.

Second, it also sent a military-medical mission. The military-medical mission is being turned around. A team of 60 doctors, paramedics and nurses is going to Sri Lanka on the 20th of this month to set up a hospital in Vavuniya to treat refugees in the warzone.

India is also working on a package of humanitarian assistance for Lanka. A team of engineers is also in Lanka to de-mine roads in its northern province.

If Prabhakaran is alive and in hiding, this is a good time to try the peaceful process of allowing Sri Lanka to "devolve power" and see what they offer. After 6 months of getting nothing, it would justify the LTTE coming out from hiding with terroristic warfare.

This statement is disturbing:

"KP: It is true that many of our senior members and leaders have either given up their lives or been treacherously killed."

If it is true that people like Nadesan and Charles Anthony were killed, then I would think Prabhakaran is also dead and this is just part of the plan to leave rumors surrounding Prabhakaran.

Editor: "Badrinath" said...

But there is no real confirmation on Nadesan and Charles Anthony yet.

No doubt, LTTE faced heavy casualties, but for tactical reasons and the current situation it wouldn't be wise for them list who died and who is alive.

Update:

On Monday morning SLA took control of the remaining LTTE controlled areas.

As mentioned previously, around 100 cadres led by a colonel were engaged in periphery security, effectively as Black Tigers. They are all believed dead; some even carried out Black Tiger (suicide bomb) attacks.

In the remaining LTTE controlled areas were up to 30, 000 civilians, including injured. Some of them were maveerar and poralai families; others had worked for LTTE civil administrations at one time or another.

Unlike previous occasions, the SLA has not declared these people as captured or in their words "rescued". What has happened to them remains a mystery.

Also in the area were more than a thousand injured, mostly seriously, LTTE cadres. They included cadres who had been paralysed or blinded from even the 1991 AKV Elephant Pass offensive. Many of you may know Navam Arivukoodam and Mayuri Illam. All cadres from there were in this area.

For almost three months LTTE has been in constant engagement with ICRC and the IC, via Norway, to have ICRC take responsibility for these cadres, under humanitarian consideration for war prisoners. A number of hurdles were placed, including surrendering weapons and renouncement of terrorism. As everyone knows, LTTE even agreed to these terms. Yet, ICRC and IC staid away as SLA made the final move.

Given the large number of people who remained in the area, a small team LTTE civil workers, including medical doctors, also staid. TamilNet has been quoting an LTTE doctor since the other two left the region last week. Heading the whole civil initiative was Political Head Mr B Nadeason. His wife of more than two decades, a native Sinhala lady, also staid with him. Both are believed dead. They have three adult children, two of whom are serving in the LTTE.

Also in the area was Mr S Pulidevan. Better known for his role as Director of Peace Secretariat, Pulidevan has been functioning as the liaison officer with the ICRC. He regularly spoke to media on ICRC related issues. He is also believed to be dead.

Charles Anthony Pirapakaran, a cadre in the Political Wing, remained with his colleagues. He is also believed to be dead. Contrary to popular belief, he was not head of Air Tigers or some IT department. LTTE is not a third world political party for leaders to emerge as a virtue of being the son or daughter of so and so. Previously, Charles Anthony had served in an infantry unit for a number of years.

In short, what happened on Monday morning was the outright slaughter of hundreds of seriously wounded men and women. SLA is par excellence in fighting the paralysed and limbless.

IC and co which allowed for it are the very same that dare to tag people as "terrorists". "Suicide bombings" are obviously abhorrent for those who "welcome" the murder of women paralysed from the neck, for example.

Honestly, everyone believed that the cadres would be given some sort of protection by the ICRC. Nambiar's trip was considered a positive development. In hindsight, when Nambiar was made to stopover at New Delhi on his way to Colombo, alternative arrangements should have been made. But moving so many seriously wounded to jungles, which involves keeping mobile to avoid detection, or moving them en masse to a new location without arousing suspicion in host community were massive logistical challenges.

With very senior leaders and even relatives dead, I won't believe he is alive unless there is a solid indication, though I still hold out hope for it. I know its a negative point of view, but 1,000 injured cadres left to die, CA dead, Nadesan dead, perhaps many others dead. Everything points to a final showdown.

Badri,

IMHO any talk of Prabha still alive & being the torch bearer of Eelam after 6 months will not be of any help to eelam tamils living there.

Even if Prabha is alive, let us not talk more abt it since that will be used as excused by racist GOSL in degrading more tamils living there.

We need atleast 6 months for wounds of tamils to heal & wait for the response of GOSL & the IC towards this massacre.

Editor: "Badrinath" said...

["We need atleast 6 months for wounds of tamils to heal & wait for the response of GOSL & the IC towards this massacre."]

Most people expect no response. Even western journalists have said Sri Lanka will clean up the beach before inviting ICRC into the area, and then say nothing happened.

After 6 months of extreme battles, there were obviously thousands of injured fighters. The entire world knows what happened but just won't say it. They want to forget the past and move forward with the post-LTTE era. Even the US gave a notice saying the are "relieved that the conflict is over". What does that mean? They have no problem that thousands were killed, including severely injured cadres who were helpless. They just want to move on with things and forget all the crimes.

Peter said...

For the time being, I believe, it is best to go with the flow of news.

That would allow space for IC to demonstrate what if any solution would be available to Tamils, via the political mainstream.

It will also give naked chauvinism to demonstrate itself as in the pre-'83 era.

Even more importantly, after a month or so of 'heightened alert' both India and Sri Lanka are likely to drop their guard.

What else the Western Govts can do against all the Asian countries standing Solidly behind Srilanka ?

Now the western Nations need Asian countries more than the asian countries need them. If BJP govt had formed in Delhi, then India could have tilted towards Tamils.

But Eelam tamils are always the unluckiest Persons in the world.

Diaspora can in fact initiate a fund to take care of injured cadres. There are more than 1000 such cadres in hospitals right now. Some of them were transported by green ocean. Now, I will fully support such a move because that would help these people most of whom were forcibly recruited anyway.

Names on DefenceLK are 'famous' and not necessarily the topmost leaders.

Some of the missing names:

Manivanan, alias Castro: Head, Diaspora Affairs
'Vedi' Dinesh: Overall Commander, Land Operations
Makenthiran: Overall Commander, Sea Operations
Thamilkumaran: Head, Finance(took over from Tamilenthi when he retired in 2005.)
Aquila: Overall Commander, Shadow Operations
Janan Master: Chief, India Department of Intelligence Unit

I suspect names are floated by web admin and not given by MI. I am sure, at the least, SLMI would be aware of Dinesh, the 'brain' behind Unceasing Waves.

As for VP,

SLA claimed that they have found a body which they reckon is VP. Only waiting medical confirmation to be 100% sure.

KP says VP is alive and well. A bold claim when SLA says it has the body.

Now SLA can show a photo of the body which they believed was VP; it should have at least some resemblances.

I've got a feeling we'll have to wait 'till July for official photo/video of VP.

Peter said...

Veeran,

British troops would not have left Basra by choice. The insurgency there had no chance of defeating such a sophisticated army either.

LTTE 'conventionalized' while having to face Sri Lankan forces. It managed well for almost two decades.

That conventional form can not survive against India. Even during IPKF, LTTE had to abandon villages and towns for safety of jungles. All chances of maintaining or regaining conventional form were lost with Indian election results. From months before the elections, they've been saying "terrorism" would be only remaining option if Sonia-Congress regains power.

In my opinion, the apparent demise of LTTE gives an opportunity for those who blamed it as stumbling block to a 'solution'. LTTE has been careful not to give list of dead or alive leaders. It would be more than happy to maintain the defeated, all leaders dead status-quo if some kind of solution could be chiseled out for Tamils.

This is the time spot-light falls on IC, Karunanidhi etc. They've always insisted a solution could be derived at, if LTTE and VP weren't around. Now they have a golden opportunity to prove it.

After their time is up, I suspect no one would want them to once again blame "terrorism" as stumbling block.

I do not know, why we keep trusting IC and the enemy to keep their words.

Even through I really want hear the voice our leader to reassure the Tamils. I believe he could be silent until next mavirar day as he does always.

But i expect other top leaders i.e sossai or pottu amman to announce the freedom stugle will continue. That is very impoprtant so that people stay focused and continue their campaign all over world. To get justice for Tamils.

Badri, I really do not know where you came to such conclusions. Lets be very clear here. Prabha is alive. He was probabily not in the warzone at all. Whether he is with KP or in some undisclosed location in Sri Lanka or overseas we will not know. What we know is that there will still probabily be a maverar day message this year. In that speech Prabha will speak.

Look here people did not give money to the LTTE because of Prabha only. Hence their not going to stop giving money regardless. Its GOSL style Propaganda to state all the other 2 reasons.

KP is the appointed head and so he's the face of the organisation now. As desperate as the Sri Lankans try to paint a picture of a dead LTTE, they will fail. The fact that Daya Master left without being killed already highlighted that they were the begining tools for disinformation.

They as well as others who left the war zone made the SLA inteligence belief alot of the leaders were holed up in the safe zone. The deal is simple, you are sick and old and if you want to survive then leave and you can get to be under sri lankan custody but you do us a favour. Do you think the LTTE who can hit Sri Lankan leaders have a problem taking out their people holed up in the small region who are trying to escape.

Hence it became too suspicious to me when it was repeatedly stated that prabha was there even after the sea link was cut off. Remeber the naval ecounters during the period. UPUL made a good point. Things were always done with a possibility that the congress might come back to power.

Why has KP stated that many leaders were killed. Simple because some of those "killed" are still in Sri Lanka. They are the advance party left behind to handle the remmaning cadres.

KP said this "4 hours I talked to him". Here is Prabha in the warzone where his only likely link is a satelite phone. In a holed up small area where the SLA famously deduces the number of LTTE killed by radio intercepts. Hence how would the army inteligence not know this and target his location.

Soosai did his best too. Prabha is in a secret location. I mean in the small area sligthly bigger then a cricket ground, fully packed, where is a secret location. The other reason to do so was to ensure cadres do not lose spirit if they leaders were not there.

The SAD part of all this is that the Sri Lankans and their army bought it hook line and sinker. It was an utter humiliation for them to realise they have been duped. What do you tell the public, "Prabha has escaped", "Prabha has fooled us", "The war is not over as prabha is alive and our econmy is bankrupt"

The same SLA guys who were fooled when LTTE cadres in muhumalai were sounding out (radio communications) unhappiness of being out on the frontline and begging for reinforcements, only to attack and for the SLA to get slaughtered there twice.

Hopefully being impossible at this junction for prabha to reveal he is alive, if they announce he pottu and soosai were killed, then the news will be able to sell for sometime. However LTTE took immediate steps to debunk it.

Imagine the worst enemy to Sri Lankan occupation of eelam is killed and a lowly army officer leaks it to the press. How long will the stupid Sri Lankan propaganda machine do this trick. Slip some information to the press desperate for information and then wham bam announce it.

How stupid can they get that the SLA says they tried to flee in an amublance. In a complete surronded war zone, in a vehicle which their DPU units always enjoy targetting when civilians are fleeing by foot, they 3 hole themselves up in a van when the 3 can die (instead of splitting 3 ways where survival chances are better).

I said this many times in Defencewire and probabily here too. Mahindha's only achievement is killing people. He was going at all odds sending Sri Lankan children(17 year old teenagers), recruits with 4 month experience to the front to die. Basically he wanted to win the war at all cost.

He has no other achievements to talk about. The economy is shattered, the country is in the limelight for all the bad reasons. Hence the LTTE gave him what he wanted, a win. They realised that fighting him now and in this front was of no use. Remeber the "Mission Accomplished" banner for Bush. Its now up for Mahindha.

The LTTE have sucesfully opened other fronts in several areas. Unfortunately for Mahindha, family and most Sri Lankans the war effort seem to be their main focus. War is only one front.

The allies for example created an imaginary division to fake the invasion of dunkrik which never happened. The Nazis opened another front by printing fake pounds using Jews. Good movie about it. They were so sucessful that they printed twice the amount of money the British had legally printed.

I mean if the LTTE is defeated why put the country on full alert. Simple as much as you fool your people, if your balls can get blown up, you would do all necessary to prevent it.

Veeran said...

Navindran,

You raised an important point about the ambulance/van story.

If one or three people are simply trying to cross a lagoon into the jungles, will they use a vehicle? It makes noise and can only go on roads. The ambulance they showed wasn't even armored.

Anyone trying to escape then would have tried to sneak, soundless, in the middle of night in groups of four or five.

More importantly, even in the IPKF days, VP was renowned for trusting his feet as best transport.

VP isn't dead, that I am very sure about. SL can always show photo of the body which they sent for examination. I think we will get a video of him in another six weeks or so.

Someone in Yarl wrote: "திட்டமிடலிலும் திடீர் முடிவெடுப்பதிலும் தலைவன் தலைவந்தான்." VP is not an ordinary human to die surrounded by SLA. He fought two countries for 30 years, and survived. Anyone remembers July 1989 front-page obituary published in The Hindu? For more than 20 years RAW has been gunning for him. God can't die.

Breaking news.

War crime in the massacre of LTTE officials

[TamilNet, Tuesday, 19 May 2009, 01:52 GMT]
While rejecting Colombo's claim of the killing of LTTE leader V. Pirapaharan and assuring his safety and well-being, LTTE's International Relations Head S. Pathmanathan Tuesday accused Colombo of treachery in the killing of the political wing leaders B. Nadesan and S. Puleedevan. Mr. Pathmanathan said it is a crime against humanity that needs to be investigated. Meanwhile, informed sources told TamilNet that what happened in the early hours of Monday was a well-planned massacre of several unarmed civil officers of the LTTE with the aim of annihilating its political structure. At the orders of a 'top defence figure,' an international arrangement involving a Sri Lankan minister to arrange safe exit to the civil officers was defied, the sources said.

Political observers compared Monday's massacre with the prison massacre of Tamil liberation fighters in 1983 and events leading to the collective death of 12 senior leaders and cadres of the LTTE in 1987.

Tamil circles also commented that any surrender of the LTTE as pressed by the International Community would have seen a similar fate to its cadres, had it been heeded.

The clarifications from Mr. Pathmanathan follow:

Statement 1:

I wish to inform the Global Tamil community distressed witnessing the final events of the war that our beloved leader Velupillai Pirapaharan is alive and safe. He will continue to lead the quest for dignity and freedom for the Tamil people.

The President and the Government of Sri Lanka needing to carry on and gloat in the planned Victory Celebrations on Tuesday, had their military establishment deliberately come up with the story detailing the demise of the leader of the LTTE. We categorically reject this and wish to inform the Tamil community to be vigilant and to exercise maximum restraint whilst grieving for the loss of Tamil civilian lives in the barbaric conduct of the final chapters of this battle.

The Tamil freedom struggle is a just cause and will not be quashed by the events of the last 24 hours. Truth and justice will always prevail.

Statement 2:

We wish to bring to the notice of the International Community the events of the last 24 hours in the so called safety zone in the war in Sri Lanka.

Subsequent to our announcement that the LTTE had decided to "silence the guns" in view of the unbearable civilian carnage at the hands of the Sri Lankan military and the heavy weaponry donated to it by third parties, we were informed by some member states of the International Community that arrangements had been made with the Sri Lankan military for discussions on an orderly end to the war.

We were instructed to make contact with the 58th Division of the Sri Lankan forces in the war zone, un-armed and carrying white flags. Head of our Political Wing, Mr. B. Nadesan and Mr. Puleedevan then proceeded to do so. They were un-armed and carrying white flags and were called on by the Officers of the 58th Division to come forward for discussions. When they complied they were both shot and killed. We vehemently condemn this action. The International Community needs to take this into account in its deliberations about charges of "Crimes against Humanity" against the members of the Sri Lanka Government and its military establishment. This act is even more unpalatable when one takes into account that the LTTE released as an act of goodwill, seven Sri Lankan Prisoners of War the day before totally unharmed.

We appeal to the International Community to act now to ensure the safety and basic needs of the displaced people who are suffering in the prison camps of the Sri Lankan military. The onus is now on the International Community to see that further war crimes and crimes against humanity are not committed on Tamils by the Sri Lankan state and to force the Sri Lankan state to yield in to the political aspirations of the Tamil people.

having a bullet rip through ones head is it?

have you ever been in a battle situation?

have you seen the war dead after elites of one armed forces takes on another?

SLDF SF teams mostly take head shots and they very rarely miss... LRRP or DPU is also the same when they have to use gunfire...
check with your LTTE sources if you have any and see if i'm wrong :)

CHarley boy was greeted quite warmly with an SLDF marksman's bullet... naturally the soldier didn't know the trued identity of Charley cos they were on strict orders not to take head shots on leaders cos we need their faces to be intact to show you guys...

Bhadri,
People dont look the same in death, especially when they are killed,as they are when alive. At times I still used to think Sivarasan(That's how we know him, maybe his real name is different)is still alive somewhere or died in this war fighting for LTTE.The photo's we saw on August20,1991 was nothing similar to what we saw on May21,1991 - but thats what a brutal death can do.

Vivek,
That came as a surprise to me.Well anycase, thanks for the pointers.

Peter,
Thanks for the confirmation.Contrary to popular belief,I read\heard that CA studied in Srilanka as anyother Tamil child would do and attended college in Lanka as well.Indian media calls him the head of Tiger's Airwing,Lankan media calls him the head of IT wing of LTTE,but the truth has been different.

Bhadri\Peter,
I stick my neckout and say its over.Spoke to my media friend in lenght yesterday night.Whatever he told matches the events unfolding now.VP is gone and as per his last wish no identifiable remains available to Srilanka.Vaiko still in inconsolable state. If you have doubts, you can see the media briefing done by Pazha.Nedumaran \ Vaiko etc yesterday.Vaiko is one who being in the limelight has an weakness - He can not control his emotions. He bares them out and you can easily identify - thats his personality,he never tries to hide them.

KP says what he says as was instructed last.He is going to be the man that Srilanka needs to worry about now even more than VP.He has eluded them for years and seems to have established a influential network.
But SLA will not so boldly claim VP is dead unless they are doubly sure, considering their past bitter experiences. But we maynot get to see VP as we saw CA or Nadesan.

"

Badri, I had originally considered you a certified grade-A retard after reading your explanation for posting the "hoax" story of gutted Tamils on your site. Did you really think that the SL govt is that much cleverer than the Eelamoid bunch??

Anyway I've had to reconsider after reading the above. In some ways you don't get all self-delusional like Puthukkudiyiruppu Peter or Nutty Navindran- you have a greater capacity to stand back and accept reality without waiting desperately for Oyatha Alaigal V. That should count for something in the Eelamoid universe.

I sort of wish Thalaivar were alive and cowering in some hole in the earth somewhere, knowing that his army is shattered, his chubby boy's dead body is in the hands of the SLA, almost all of his senior flunkies are dead, and not being able to do anything about any of this.

Unfortunately, #3 is the most likely scenario, with Kumaran taking advantage of #2. He might as well milk the Eelamoids for all they're worth. Regardless, I have to congratulate you for having a greater understanding of how our iyakkam works than some of the others here.

If Kumaran is content to rip off dumb Eelamoids using Thalaivar's name, then more power to him. If he wants to fight, then he'll have to understand that we eventually adapt to the threats we face, and ultimately triumph.

Common guys.I know it's bitter news. But don't cloud reality with your wishful thinking. This doesn't apply to Badrinath who shows commendable analytical skills without giving in to emotions. But consider the circumstances. It's an insult to Prabhakaran to claim that he let his young son and other most trusted lieutenants who stood by him all these years against all odds to perish and for himself to cling on to dear life.KP himself admitted that Nadesan Pulidevan and other leaders are indeed dead. The military wouldn't confirm it if they weren't sure because once Prabhakaran re emerges what are they going to say?KP can claim Prabhakaran to be alive because no matter what the government says he can always say it's propaganda and brush it off. There will always be enough doubt for him to save face.If Prabhakaran WAS alive and in hiding there is no way he would allow KP to jeopardize his security by revealing the same unless and until he is safe enough to show up in person.BTW KP himself didn't sya he spoke to Prabhakan himself on monday. He said he had information from others.Navindran, you can't assume VP was not in the safe zone based on the statement that KP talked to him FOR 4 hours. That was a wrong translation.KP actually said he talked 4 hour ago.

As far as I'm concerned there is a better chance of Elvis being alive than Prabhkaran.

It has been officially announced that Prabhakaran is alive and safe and we have to go by it.

srilanka has not produced any evidence to support its claim.

Hindu reporter Muralidhar Reddy, the only only foreign print journalist present inside the war zone, accompanied the top commanders as the bodies of the LTTE brass were brought in tractors by the soldiers for identification says that the army beleives that a body burnt beyond recognition recovered from the battle zone could be that of Prabhakaran.

They were not sure. That is why Hindu headline says "LTTE supremo Prabhakaran 'beleived' killed".

Nedumaran , Vaiko, Ramadoss and Pandiyan have jointly announced that Prabhakaran is alive.

Even BBC said that his death is not confirmed.

Leaflets had been distibuted in Amparai cautioning people not to beleive rumours.

Yesterday itself several websites appealed people not to beleive the rumours.

Why go more with rumours? LTTE will come out with more clarifications in course of time.

LTTE propagandists must decide and stick to one story. On one hand they try to portray their leaders as fearless warriors who would rather opt to die fighting for their cause which is noble indeed. But once they are actually killed they claim that they had surrendered and it was against all known conventions. You can't have it both ways.

If they wanted to surrender why didn't they say so plainly and clearly without twisting it this way and that way.remember KP's words 'silencing of guns but NOT surrender' What does that mean? You can't blame the government for misunderstanding it to be an offer of ceasefire which they've already rejected. In the end in an attempt to surrender but at the same time save face the leaders had to die unnecessarily and achieved nothing.

Ogre said in DW

Dear friends

this is my last post

Ananda - thank you for inviting me to your blog, but my whole family is involved in the Sri Lankan politics arena including the military so I respectfully defer it this time.

Thank you for the support you have given to the brave Sri Lanka Defense forces during the last 30 years. Without you the Tamil Terrorist movements attacks would have been not so blunted.

Although we should not talk any more about prabhakaran, I mentioned in my last post how he died, being the cowered he is he 'begged' to spare his life. His son wept, the half Malayali Tamil Terrorist who sent thousands of Tamil children and women to their graves did not have the courage to fight when we encircled him. There was more drama but something like what happened to Upatissa Gamanayaka happened to VP and Pottu. None of them wore any cyanide.

Tamils are very down, but as part Tamil myself, I would not be so upset. This war put an end to a process that was unjust. We will make sure that all Sri Lankans will have equal rights and that the causes of this so called discrimination would be solved through both legislative and economic programs.

The diaspora are welcomed to come back, the country needs them. This includes Tamils and others alike.

The country can be made a beacon of economic and ethnic harmony. We can make it happen.

Gone are the days, when we antagonized India, she is our mother (we came from India), the Sinhalese are a mixture of all Indian ethnic races.

We will soon see parliament elections, the proportional representation which no one is responsible for their electorate should be corrected. This so the Tamils in north can have their say as well. This should lead to correcting many problems related to resource allocation. The home grown solution is ready, but only after elections.

For those who keep saying VP is not dead, here is a secret: ever wonder of that scar he has on his left leg...yes

Above post is by self-proclaimed SLA personnel, Ogre, in DW. It is so puzzling me. Contradicting news are coming out of both sides time to time in last 24 hrs. If they had VP,Pottu and others in SLA's custody before they were killed, they would have milked all the information of their international networks etc. It does not adds up well but as Badri said earlier the chances of VP's death are higher than he is alive.

Regards to CA, Ogre mentioned that he wept to be spared, well, given the physical looks of CA, I can tell, he was a pampered child. For a guy like CA who was in mid 20s and took extensive military training with such a military background, he should look like 6 pack guy, or, at least, a NCAA college player. Fear factor of getting killed and being pampered child would have made him to weep for his life to be spared- that's where I feel Ogre may have told the truth about CA but regards to VP and Pottu, I can't believe he told the truth. Given the benefit of the doubt, I still put CA and other LTTE leaders in high regards until someone clears the smoke. What happened in the last hour we may never get to know in our lives. Plz apologize me for analyzing negatively, but being logical person i'm, few things do not add up here.

THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME SHIT LANKA ANNOUNCED VP IS GONE.

Don't bank too much on the adage 'history repeats it self' Sometimes it doesn't. There's also a saying 'Theres a first time for everything'

Just because the MI got wrong before doesn't mean it's going to be the case every time.I say this because I feel that's one thing that went wrong for the LTTE this time round. After the Jayasikuru debacle they got complacent thinking any military offensive of the army would automatically suffer the same fate sooner or later. But now we know it DIDN'T.

Bingo,we have similar views atleast on this.Sometime back when I first saw the pics of CA posted on sites,I mentioned here that the Tiger cub was nothing like what I had expected.

Being in early 20's and having read a lot about how CA was leading the Tiger's in the offensives,I had in my imagination a fighting fit young man who will carryon the baton,if it falls off his dad's hand. But atleast in appearance,he was nothing like that.

Also seems that CA was a leftie. The way his pistol is bolstered shows this.

Vaiko claiming it is not CA and he is not bald etc.But Army.lk has posted pics of CA in civilian dress without cap.He indeed was bald.

Spreading of these false rumors of VP being alive hurts all the parties concerned in this conflict. For the supporters of LTTE it suggests that their leader was a coward and denies him of the dignity I feel he deserves. One may not agree with his cause or methods but you must agree that it's noble to die for what you think is right. For Sri Lanka, it denies the icing on the victory cake and the ability to commence rebuilding the country with confidence.Although they may not realize it yet even the die hard diaspora seems to be relieved with a sense of finality and an opportunity to start a fresh campaign to win Tamil rights discarding the old violent one which proved to be counter productive.

'Expectation of death is worse than death itself'

VP Rumor: Those who believe KP can wait till July, or Heroes' Day at the latest, to confirm if he is alive or dead. VP does not make media appearances on random days. Faithful should remain so.

Nadeason and Pulidevan: My earlier post is above on this thread. Neadeason staid as Head due to presence of political cadres and doctors serving the large number of civilians and injured cadres who were still there. Pulidevan was liaison officer with ICRC. They were expecting ICRC to take responsibility for injured/differentially-abled cadres.

Charles Anthony: As with any other Tamil, he joined LTTE, completed training, served in an infantry and moved to Political Wing. Those who think the leader's son would be sent abroad for special training or be made Head of Air Tigers at age 22 do not know anything about the LTTE. I really don't get why some of us Tamils refuse to move past dynastic thinking. LTTE cadres are ranked by merit, not whose son or daughter they are. CA was no different to any other cadre. He will probably be posthumously ranked as a Major, having served in the the LTTE for 6.5 years.

Bhairav said...

[Bhairav, as per your scenario, f VP was captured alive, he would have been SLA's prized possession for its victory parade cum celebrations. So why would SLA assassinate VP ?]

Roy,

I believe VP did surrender to SLA and had violent death in SLA's custody. CA was shot to death in front of VP as someone hinted last night, but past 24 hours VP went through the SLA's interrogation before meeting the violent death.

If they parade him alive, there are so much political risks involved.

I guess all LTTE leaders were fooled by treacherous agreement between 58 div and LTTE through so called third party agreement. In the end, gover failed to honor the agreement which was any kind of safe passage to these LTTE leaders.

tharu22,

agreed, in my comment, I use the term "innocents" for all the innocent Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims.

These LTTE maggots killed all most all the moderate Tamil leaders. It is very sad to see the Sri Lankan Tamil community doesn't have any leader now. LTTE tried to be the "sole representative" by killing other leaders. Once LTTE is defeated Tamils have no representatives. LTTE supporters didn't allow moderate tamils to express their views. They couldn't force LTTE to agree to a political solution. If they agreed, today VP would be the chief minister of north-east. Their ego blinded their eyes.

It is nice to see moderate Tamils are now slowly coming out from the den. The comments in the DBSJ's blog proves that while this puligal blog attracts hardcore LTTE supporters who are responsible for the sufferings of the sri lankan Tamil community.

it's sad you only have to go with tamilnet's claim on casualty figures on civilians... that's where your so called "logical" thinking ends my friend...
you and the rest of the world know how tamilnet cooks things up to get things going...

for the record... the civlians deaths are no where near to the numbers you speak of...
but then again i bet you would prefer the tamilnet's bogus figures

I doubt that this is prabha.

he is a body double who was killed by SLA & then planted his body on pond.

Howcome?

He is the leader who ordered others to bite cyanide if captured by SLA. Why he couldn't eat the pill. If your claim is true, VP has died as a coward, begging for his life.

NIsal, exactly! The diaspora can't have it both ways. Either
1.He's a coward who was mercilessly killed by the army disrespecting the Geneva convention on POW (Both are at fault)
2. He died fighting honorably and the Army got him fare and square (Nobodies to blame)
Choose..

You can't have the cake and eat the cake at the same time!
I suggest not to cut the nose to spite the enemy.Respect the dead man.Thats the least you can do for him now.

Whether it is santa clause or not, i am saying that if PRABHA Is indeed dead, it could be work of Pottu or some other disgrunted senior members who have ganged on him..

I guess all LTTE leaders were fooled by treacherous agreement between 58 div and LTTE through so called third party agreement. In the end, gover failed to honor the agreement which was any kind of safe passage to these LTTE leaders.Repeat what I said earlier!

Prabhakaran dead.Body found.Full stop.KP is a damn lier! Tamilnet is anything but reliable.

COuld well be prabha body. He could have tried to escape thru lagoon & there could be fire fighting wherein everyone else ran but prabha got killed with a bullet on head.

I can see the SCAR on the Prabha Nose & Seems 100% it is prabha body.

Where is Soosai now,no news on him.Pottu announced as killed,so are Bhanu and Jeyam. But no news on Soosai - did he have to role to play in this.I think it will remain a mystery forever.

Maybe SLA learnt a lesson on how to make treacheous agreements by looking back at the "TALKS" held by LTTE with Vettivelu Yogeswaran & Appapillai Amirthalingam.

Photos/video look 100% like VP.

However, since KP has said an opposing statement, I would also give him some time to prove that, by way of video.

Even if that is done, there will forever be suspicion on whether KP is using a double or if it was the double that died.

At the same time, I wouldn't put anything past RAW; even Kamal Hassan stuff for a minute video. My only note is that his head appears to be blown off by a shell. If that was so, brain would have leaked out and eyes would have sunk.

Anyhow, time will tell.

Peter,
It is quite possible that since GoSL didnt mention anything about VP's body,KP wanted to calm nervous people and said he is alive.

GoSL has punctured KP's version.I am no forensic expert, but for the naked eye its 100% VP.Even the folded arms of the shirt are so similar

Didn't you read the news or DefenceLK yesterday?

"Prabhakaran was killed this morning along with two of his deputies after a two-hour firefight when they tried to break to freedom through advancing government troops, defence officials said. His body was badly burnt when his armour-plated van was hit by a rocket and burst into flames."

That news about 12 hours before KP's statement was published on TamilNet. News all day yesterday was that the body was in Colombo.

The video is of a totally different body with they claim to have captured today.

Oh! so VP died as a coward without eating cyanide?

Bhairav said...

Peter,

Obviously you can see it was a clear trap by GoSL on the KP's call saga. KP mentioned with Ch4 that he spoke with VP for 4 hours that means VP's handlers,GoSL, were listening the conversations to milk some info.

I believe 100% VP was surrendered or captured by SLA. That was a grave grave mistake he made. He had a violent death.

Bhairav said...

Badri said it was supposedly 4 hours ago instead of 4 hour conversation and they made mistake on the interview article. In fact, KP spoke with VP for 4 hours that obviously GoSL forced VP to do it.

Nisal said...

[[In fact, KP spoke with VP for 4 hours that obviously GoSL forced VP to do it.]]

So VP died as a coward without eating cyanide?

VP ordered others to kill traitors, even him self if he abandon the ultimate goal. So, SLA executed VP's order?

Indian said...

Peter,
I didnt see that article, some were saying here Defencelk removed a article and this could be it.
Anycase,I am sure they purposefully held back info on VP's corpse with some reason.Maybe he was alive yesterday or they waited to see KP's move, quite possible.

And if KP spoke for 4 hours to VP,then I am sure GoSL will now have a treasure of information.Thats more bad news for you

Peter said...

Bhairav,

KP said before four hours, i.e. four hours ago, and not the duration of the call. I think Badri pointed it our earlier.

Having said that, I don't think KP has spoken to VP by phone for months even. Unless they are both in the same area, they are unlikely to have spoken. VP does not make basic security blunders like that. If he had, he would have been killed twenty odd years ago.

Anyhow, no argument that the video appears to show 100% VP. Also, trying to cross Nanthi kadal on foot rather than some random escape by ambulance sounds plausible.

Indian said...

...but what interests me more at this time is Soosai,WHERE IS HE?

giri said...

for the persons who said ltte finished (including SL government).
OK. i come on your side. war is end in sri lanka. government take control all over the country. ltte was wipe out.
so, you don't need any more chick points and random checkpoint in public places and main roads.
you know, in Colombo today, SL government arrange heavy security because M R speech in the parliament. why they do like this. clear up our all roads and leave us freely moved and live peacefully. did you know when it is happen?

Peter said...

Indian,

They didn't hold back info on VP's corpse. They said it was found and was in hospital. The article seems to have disappeared from DefenceLK but quotes can be found elsewhere.

KP was confident enough to say VP was alive and well, even after that news.

The video shows a bloated corpse, even his double chin is hardly visible. If that is dead VP then he must have died at least a day ago; at sometime on Monday morning. KP's statement came on Monday night.

i can understand ur need to put the blame to SLA (cos even if dog farts..it's SLA fault :) )...but man dont take someones dignity ( if there was one - ever) out of him (VP) like saying he surrendered!!!

for me VP is nothing but a terrorist !!! but that does not mean the man was not brilliant in his work to have lasted this long ..have faught 4 eelam wars and against 2 conventional armies !!!!

i would not stoop to the level of saying he surendered when he asked others to die for him...(i would of cos love the fact if he surrendered cos it would prove what a fagot he was BUT !!!!) i know its bad enough he sold u a bluff..may b u should b happy he died fighting !!(if u think otherwise u can just about imagine the kind of bull they were feeding u all this time )

and more than anything respect for the enemy(especially since he is dead)

So what do you think could be the reason for KP's comments?

Peter said...

Soosai and Pottu were reported dead by DefenceLK and quoted elsewhere on Monday.

Indian, you really have missed a lot of 'news' yesterday.

Wouldn't RAW be more interested in Janan Master and Aquila, or even Pottu?

Bhairav said...

Peter, I follow, Ogre's posts closely, whenever i have time. In fact, 2 days back he was confident of VP saga and released some sensitive info which in fact is a serious security flop if the story was true, given he is a high ranking SLA personnel, so he pretended as Ogre's bro to back him later that he didn't reveal this info etc. Today he said on his last post that something about VP and his son, then I understood what really happened. All my doubts were proved later by SF's announcement and some of VP's images. I can tell you Pottu still can be SLA's custody now.

Peter,
Pottu is reported dead but not Soosai.I have no clue on whom RAW will have more interest.

Few things read on DW do seem to be adding up well though.Soosai's family being caught \ infight between Soosai and VP \ VP possibly being caught alive(I for sure strongly believe this is not a combat death) and what happened to the 2 capsules that VP used to carry.

Was he done IN in the last day's by his own men,is the biggest query now.

Tamil brothers, let it sink in for a while, accept and move on. Hope at least some of you are able to give up on a dream land and work towards a better future for yourselves and for your relatives in Sri Lanka.
I have mocked you before, but I am humbled by the possibility of a peaceful and united Sri Lanka where everyone can have opportunities based on their abilities and talent, rather than their connections or race or religion.
Some of you may be holding on to some hatred from 1983. For f*cks sake that is 25 years ago. I had a Tamil neighbour taking refuge at my place. My brother risked his own life to transport a Tamil friend's family to safety. These are not heroic acts, just common human decency. We have more in common than differences. Whatever atrocities the tigers committed to innocent Sinhala villagers after that, there were no attacks on Tamils in Colombo.
The choice is yours.. keep going down the path of hate and you will never find peace within or without. Peace out!

New Delhi: LTTE chief Prabhakaran appears to have been killed, spelling an end to a long and bloody offensive by the army.

But even as pictures of the Prabhakaran's corpse are flashed in screens across the world, some questions remained unanswered, even by top army officials and Lankan diplomats.

For instance, how exactly was Prabhakaran killed and why was the body found in a no-fire zone, when the army claimed they had trapped him in a 300 square meter area?

How were they able to identify him so quickly, with a DNA test, no less?

Why would the most hunted man in Sri Lanka dress in army camouflage and carry his ID papers on him?

Was he alive when the military found him, or had the leader of the Tamil Rebels killed himself before they did?

On Monday, the Sri Lankan Military confirmed that Prabhakaran was shot dead.

The news also independently confirmed to CNN-IBN by the Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka who said the LTTE chief was shot by the Sri Lankan special forces before dawn and he was trying to flee in a convoy of a van and an ambulance

On Tuesday, however, Sri Lankan military spokesperson Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara again confirmed that Prabhakaran was dead and his body recovered by the army during a combing operation on Tuesday morning

Indian,

Also missing from the list are the likes of Ratnam Master, Thamilanban, Castro, Dinesh etc.,

Perhaps you would be reassured by "Troops strongly believe that all top LTTE cadres including its chief V. Prabhakaran have been killed in today's fighting. The identification process is being continued," from the "official list"

Very simple.. he would have wanted to go for his last battle. If i knew my chances are 1 in million to survie isnt it better to face death in full combat waer than dreassing like a beggar...

Guys please ignore "FreedomFighter" its becasue of poeple like him (who has no brains to think) that we are victorious.. ;)

Can any medics here comment on the likelihood of the face looking like as is on the video?

I've never come across a damaged head with a bloated face. Head injuries and brain leak usually ends up with sunken face and eyes. Face and eyes bloat a day after a death but only when there are no head injuries.

I am not in to medicine, so would be good if anyone can give reasoning either way.
